this thread is for semi-serious pokediscussion about the bottom barrel pokemon- those at the very very fringes of viability in the lowest tiers of play. note that these monsters must still be actually viable. there is no point in discussing farfetch'd or dustox, as they have literally nothing good or interesting about them. anything dustox can do can be done by any other creepy crawlie. anything farfetch'd can do can be done better by even, like...pidgeotto. pidgeotto!!
here are a few pokemon that i think have a very niche role. put them in your teams if you want a challenge, or to learn more about some of the most neglected mons [like your mothers fragrant mons >: )]
Beartic!
Beartic is very fucking cool, and a pokemon i have used on the ladder with very limited success. His best stat is his attack, which is a pretty dang solid 110. his other stats are basically meaningless. defense doesnt matter when youre ice type. his speed is notable in that he's fucking slow. ridiculously slow. with a weakness to stealth rock and low speed, the only real use for him i've found is on trick room teams. the problem is that trick room teams already have a lot of physical attackers. Rampardos, Ursaring and Marowak are MUCH stronger. as cool as he is, i just dont see the use for a semi-strong trick room user. ursaring is a cool bear with better attack, one of the best abilities in the game and a better movepool. use him if you want a challenge!
Vespiquen!!
in a move more spiteful than a paul ryan policy, they designed a pokemon with a unique, very cool look, gave it solid defensive stats, a great ability for a defensive type and several very cool unique moves packed with personality, and then they gave her a quad weakness to rock. great. the second she switches in, she will lose 50% of her HP, putting her in KO range immediately. she's also very slow. i'd love to find a niche for her, but i don't see one. i dont even think she's on the borderline of viable like beartic. shes useless. i just think she looks amazing. maybe use her like a crappy alomomola with toxic and roost. i dont know. ANY ideas are welcome.
Weezing!!!
Now we're talking! Weezing is the most viable one so far, and is a defensive juggernaut. this thing was one of the best tanks in one of those gens before this one, has a great ability and a wonderful movepool. the reason why he struggles now is because a) attackers have gotten way strong and b) the dude is predictable. will-o-wisp, pain split and clear smog are mandatory. if weezing switches into an attacker, he is using will o wisp next turn. if anyone here plays this game as much as i do, i'd like to see a weezing/lickilicky core. they very naturally compliment each other, and both have tremendous bulk. i'd also like to see any ideas for an offensive weezing!
more to come later! in my next post- a starter pokemon you've forgotten about, and maybe some more terrible ice types!
